Direct Support Professionals NEED better wages!

DSPs are highly skilled professionals dedicated to the essential care of individuals with I/DD, yet the average statewide starting wage for DSPs employed by non-profit provider agencies is $16.07/hour. This low wage does not reflect the numerous critical responsibilities required to ensure the safety, productivity, and well-being of the entire I/DD community.

This legislation would provide a $4,000 increase in wages, which equates to approximately $2.19/hour for a full-time DSP, and is essential to address the high turnover and staff vacancy challenges that non-profit provider agencies continue to face in providing support and services to 85% of New Yorkers with I/DD.
